Parents and school involvement

My question stems from a personal experience. My middle child is starting kindergarten next week. I've become fairly close with one of my dd's friend's moms- this is her first child entering the school system. She WOH, I do not, plus I have experience with the school, so she's been calling me with questions and comments.

It started to go bad when she called to complain that the kindy orientation is during the day- when she is working. Then it led to complaints about the parents' read aloud program (when the kids are in library) and other opportunities for volunteerism in the school. I get that these things aren't convenient for her, but I'm getting annoyed with the complaining. How can the kids have an orientation at night when they go to school during the day? None of these events are mandatory for parents or kids. And plenty of activities are scheduled for evenings: Back to school night, the PTA picnic, etc.

She thinks because she can't participate, no one should be able to, apparently. Plenty of WOHP do show up for these things. I think she's being unrealistic if she thought she could put a couple of kids through school without ever taking a vacation day. Am I wrong? Am I missing something here?

Our after-care was $10/day this year which makes it $200/month if you use every day of the month.

I know what they do and there are strict rules now about people selling stock when they know it is going up. I can only get my stock when I leave so this is mostly for the executives who are able to touch theirs now. Years ago before they started this policy, my boss sold $950,000 worth of his stock and still had tons left over.

They layed them off because they were with the company for so many years (30 yrs. of one employee) and made the most money. They did layoff newbies also but many of the people were there over 10 years and many in managerial positions.

My company does VERY well but the insider trading DID have many of the executives making tons of money at one time. Now they are making it legal to do so to get their stocks now instead of when they leave. I have to wait until I leave to take mine which will be very nice if they price of the stock stays up.

I think alot of preschool is getting the kids ready for a classroom. Teaching at home will not be able to do that. The teacher in kindergarten told me that she knew who and who did not go to preschool. Not many kids around me don't go to preschool though.

Is price really the deal breaker as I know it is not that expensive by me and I live in a high COL.

i can not do alot of the things my children learned in preschool at home. i cant expsoe them to the same group of kids for an extended period of time every week or day, i cant expose them to a teacher other than mom, i cant expsoe them to learning how to cope with different rules and different expectations than mom has, i cant teach them to walk in a line wiht a group of other kids, i cant teach them how to go to lunch in the lunchroom, there are alot of things i can teach them at home that they get in preschool but there are alot of things i cant.

If you can't you can't. I can.I wasn't saying that everyone should skip preschool so I'm not sure what your point is.

Ok, so how are you accomplishing your child being with different types of children and being in a school setting?
