Yes, they dropped Shop and home education. I am really upset about this. I think these are things that should be taught.

Too cool to cook and too posh to push. That would be my sister. Fortunately she has a kitchen-savvy househusband and an arsenal of contraception methods.

I don't have a sewing machine (but my kids do, lol).

I'm going to have nightmares about that tonight! ;)

A couple months ago, I saw a dad in the grocery store line with his 3 year old buying 20+ adult frozen meals and 10ish kid frozen meals and little else. It was really kind of sad.

On the plus side, last week I stood in line behind a grandma and kid buying lots of fresh veggies and fruits with WIC. Apparently, it allows people to buy fresh fruits and vegetables-- although it seemed awfully complicated.

That's what they did at my junior high. I don't know that absolutely everyone took them, but most people had a semester of shop and a semester of cooking.

20 or 30 years ago, prepackaged food like that was still a lot more expensive than home cooked meals. Especially, if like in my family, the produce came from your garden and the meat came from your barn. My grandmas had to cook. And my mom had to learn to cook to help my grandma. Me? There wasn't really any reason for me to learn. I did, but it wasn't a necessity to eat like it was for my grandma or even mom.
