I think it's also knowing the good places in a given area. There are some atrocious Chinese restaurants near me, but also some great ones.

Well I guess that means, according to many posters, you were not taught as a child to cook by your parents and so forth, you can only do it by trial and error now as an adult :0

That is just such a ridiculous claim. To claim that your italian grandma is the same as every italian american (and even actually Italians who live in Italy). They all think the same and they are all offended by recipe books.

This is why your posts do not make any sense. And border on the ridiculous.

Okay, well, *I* did grow up with an Italian grandmother and she did use a cookbook sometimes.

And as someone who has LIVED in Italy, I can tell you that Italians do use cookbooks. It's not like all Italians are born with an innate ability to cook well.

Have you been to Italy before?

Wuh?

What possible difference does that make to anything? Are vowels innately superior to consonants?

No, I am not full Italian. My father married a full-blooded Italian woman when I was in my teens. My stepmother has a large extended family that accepted us as if we were blood relatives. My youngest sisters are half-Italian, and their children are either one quarter or one half Italian. My stepmother is the only parent I have left, I am very close to her, and she is the only grandparent my kids have left. My step-mother is the youngest of four siblings, and the older two were born in Italy; the next one in New York, and she was born in New Jersey.

My father would NEVER buy jarred sauce or even think to eat it. BUT...he had no problem eating my baked ziti and loving it WITH jarred sauce, at that dinner. I think people "say" they don't like something without even trying ALL the different varities. I don't like ALL jarred sauces, I don't like ALL homemade sauces.
