Mmmm, love carbonara sauce. We just had it a week ago using an old family recipe. When I lived in Rome, pasta carbonara was one meal that was served every day in the cafeteria at school, never fail. It's not exactly healthy though!

Do you think I only have known ONE Italian woman (mother, grandmother) in my entire life? :0
Are you Italian? Did you grow up with an Italian mother/grandmother/greatgrandmother, etc. or are you going by your in-laws in NY?

Well, thank you. So that would exclude clam sauce and carbonara from the things that in your experience, Italians would consider to be "sauce," right? Or is red sauce the generic sauce and everything else needs an adjectival marker?

Unfortunately I have not. I do plan to go in the future. My aunt just came back last year from Italy (not her first trip), my family were born in Italy and I have many friends (one whom came over when he was in his teens) who are Italian or lived in Italy.

Well, not to brag...OK, I am bragging....I am an indifferent cook...that is, competent but nothing special....but I am a very good baker.

So you didn't grow up as a child seeing an Italian grandmother cook? Seeing Italian relatives traditions and how they lived. Thanks.
