This topic "piggybacks" on the priorities topic where we discussed what we gave up as working women and moms, what do you think our children give up...honestly!? What do you think they gain? Also please mention your own mothers status and your experience of a child as a SAH or WOH.

As long as good memories were made...or maybe some intentional bad ones.

Just one cherry tree. Please. We are not the type to go overboard with celebrations. I do not approve of un-necessary ostentation.

Oh, my bad, I thought I would give them some input into their lives. I forgot about my required sacrifices. It's bad enough that I work...as an active duty Air Force officer...I know nothing about sacrifices...my poor kids

Well, I confess I am a scrapper. Rather enjoy it. The fact that I am stuck in 2003 with my books should tell you something, though....in any case, I have been to many scrapbook stores and overheard many conversations:

"Oh! Look at that cute zoo paper!"
"Mom, let's get out of here. We've never been to the zoo."
"Yes, but look! You know, I think there's a zoo in Omaha! Let's get the paper and go to Omaha!"

Seriously. I heard that. And I thought, well, OK, if it takes cute paper to get the kids to the zoo, it must not be all bad. In a weird and twisted way.

On a different note about coloring I recently found some posters that I saved from when I was a kid. I had colored these posters when I was about 12--they were female historical characters. My kids were SO impressed that I colored so nicely. : ) They each wanted to put some up on their walls.

How about a side debate about how I colored them incorrectly and in not as special as a way (by M2B's arguments) because I did not plan it out when I was 12 to impress my future children with them!

We take pictures but not all that often. We own a video camera but don't shoot much video. We spend more time worrying about knocking down or dropping the video camera than just enjoying the moment. We dragged it to DW one year and used it for exactly 45 seconds. We were too busy having fun to remember we had it.

I think I figured out that if you videotape more than half of your life, it is mathematically impossible to watch it all, anyway.....

I love MIL's scrapbooks, I really do. I like that we can pass her pictures and she'll make the books. I love that she's into taking pictures. Her books are beautiful. What's weird is that she has all the paper for all the milestones long before they met each milestone. But that's her thing and she does have the time to do it.

And don't forget that she thinks anyone is a bad parent if they say they don't plan out things for the reason that they will be memories. And then she comes up with the wrong conclusion that these parents go nowhere & do nothing with their children.
