This topic "piggybacks" on the priorities topic where we discussed what we gave up as working women and moms, what do you think our children give up...honestly!? What do you think they gain? Also please mention your own mothers status and your experience of a child as a SAH or WOH.

This is why I insist ds wear a costume. He hates costumes. Okay, fine. But do NOT go to strangers' houses and beg for candy without a costume. With the costume, it's part of a generally accepted, fun tradition and that lessens it from begging to ... well to what I dont know, but to something that most people don't consider begging.
He has the choice to not wear a costume. But, no costume = no ToTing.

Wow you would label another poster's traditions as abnormal? Weird. I imagine many people would think your Halloween traditions abnormal also. Not everyone celebrates this or any particular holiday at all, let alone in the same way.
It's very unfortunate that you would feel you need to comment on this poster's life & that her children do not have enough "normalcy" in their life.
Extreme conformity (which is what you are advocating) is not normalcy either.

"Surprise trips to Disneyworld seem to have been quite the thing this summer. A woman on another board I occasionally read also surprised her children with a trip to Disneyworld this summer. She posted pictures, and it looked as if the entire family enjoyed themselves."
That's nice. Did you let her know you thought so?
