Now that many of us are in shopping mode, what are your views on shopping? Do you ever shop just for fun? Do you think that's wrong? Is Christmas shopping the same as recreational shopping or different? WDYT?

The only recreational shopping that I voluntary do is in fabric stores and book stores. I take my mil so she can go recreational shopping a lot more than I'd go for just me. And even then, I always have something in mind to buy, even if it's only one spool of thread or a pack of needles.

heh. I just got home from Joann's, where I needed a styrofoam cone. I ended up with the bolts ends (50% off, plus 50% off the bolt end measure) of 5 different holiday fabrics, 2 1/4 yards of red fleece with black paw prints on it (no sale, but I had a coupon for 40% off, plus it was a bolt end, so 50% off the 1/4 yard) and then 2 yards of a cute holiday fabric, but I couldn't find a bolt end of it ;)
then I had to get a zipper for the fleece fabric (I'm making a dog bed for my ex's niece who got a new puppy). So. A trip for a $1 piece of styrofoam only ended up costing me $37. :) I figure I did pretty well.

Yes, and to DH, it's a sport. He luvs it.

Different. Any shopping that's goal oriented - having to buy a certain present or having to buy presents for a bumch of people - is different than recreational shopping, which need not involve buying anything.
