Refinancing a Mortgage

Can you refinance your mortgage if the rate is not lower than the one you have now? How would that work?
Our original mortgage was 7.5%, we refinanced a few years ago down to 5.25%. I was telling a woman on one of my other message boards about how I was thinking of taking a cash advance from my discover card to clean up my checking and savings account and she said I could refinance. Is that possible?
Thanks!

Thats a pretty silly statement. Of course everyone can LIVE without tv. They may not *want* to do without it, but they can. Whats wrong with getting rid of cable and using rabbit ears for local channels only? Both my parents do that now, since neither watches a ton of regular tv and would rather rent movies.

Dont most leases work so that at the end of those 3 years you either have to pay it off or trade it in for a new leased car? So you never stop having car payments?

<,My one question to everyone is, do you think I am the only person who owes money who has cable or other things that you consider "luxuries"? >>
Of course not. You are, however, the only one that came here and asked for advice.

Actually, you've done just that throughout this entire thread.

I don't think you are. Heck, I have bills. You are, however, the only one that asked for advice.

I'm a FT WOHM. I have to look presentable as well. But I haven't bought a single item of clothing that costs over $40 in about 2 years ... why? Because I have cc debt, and until that is gone (next month! woo hoo!) I can't afford the luxury of more clothes.

I do them. He knows I'm doing them correctly. We communicated about it very extensively and he always knows what the balanaces are in our accounts .. if he doesn't at some particular moment, all he has to do is ask or look.
Choose your friends by their character and your socks by their color. Choosing your socks by their character makes no sense and choosing your friends by their color is unthinkable.
"do you think I am the only person who owes money who has cable or other things that you consider "luxuries"? I am not in any way comparing myself to other people but just wondered why you think I am the only one around who has bills. "
If I owed 10 % of my gross household income without a corresponding asset, I wouldn't have luxuries.

I'm a single WOHM to a nearly 23 y-o son.

ITA with you and Sabina. Sometimes I feel like the big corporations stole the American childhood, and are selling it back at a premium. It's why we won't do Disney, but that's a debate for another day, I suppose.
Although I do have to admit that DS2's third birthday party will be at Gymboree. What can I say -- he simply adores the place.
