There's something on this board that has been bothering me, and I hope I can articulate it.

"Where does the SAH/WOH thing come in?" It barely does. A lot of people assumed she was slamming dual jobs b/c of the title, I think. Indirectly because she's pointing out that the common assumption that dual jobs is inherently more financially stable is a dangerous one.

I understand, and am in the same situation. If we weren't yet homeowners, I'm sure we'd be begging for this to happen though . . . .

But Cyndi wants it to apply across the board, not in some or even many families. She considers it a *general* benefit for woh over sah. Her view is that this would apply to ALL families, that one needn't take individual circumstances into consideration when speaking of ses.

I don't take "general" as meaning "applicable to all."

Well and I think that beyond a certain dollar amount, it IS irrelevent. I mean, we arent talking about the difference between poverty level and middle class. We are talking about the difference between middle and upper middle.

I think that Cyndi wants to believe that having a wohm is *generally* better for children, because it can mean higher ses. But its her refusal to admit that all of this is completely contigent on each family's individual situation that I find annoying.

OK. I finally read the bit on MSN news. It makes sense.

Well I agree with her "in general" but I also believe that there are so many variables that the general statement isn't worth too much.

That is exactly the problem with trying to suggest that more money=better for kids across the board. There is simply no way to control for other factors, which is why the statistics are meaningless for families dealing with other factors.

I personally am in favor of personal choice of school districts at least in our area.
