"SAH doesn't support change, it supports going backwards to the 1950's,"
Statement in a post below.
I wholeheartedly disagree. To me, SAH is a choice. How is that going back to the 1950s, when a lot of women didn't have much of a choice.

My kids get these type of rewards for the work they do over and above what is required for them. My kids are excellent students and they are all in the TAG program, they do extra work on a regular basis and get rewarded for it. Sure, I am fine with that. The "feeling" they get for doing what is required is not going to be enough to get them to do the extra work they do. If I were to have them only do what is required of them, they would not push themselves, they would not get the added benefit of that extra work. So, yes, I view what they get as rewards for that extra work as a "bonus" much like an adult bonus for going above and beyond what their job required of them.

I am talking about 5 and 6 year olds liking the physical prizes. Big difference between a 5 year old and a 9 year old.

Haven't you been saying that eliciting a desired behavior is a bad thing? Here you seem to be saying that it is okay for a college to be doing it but not a kindergarten teacher?

If it were not the case that kindergarten teachers wanted to achieve all their students to be reading at the right level, there would be far fewer stickers bestowed.
Colleges want students that are operating at a certain level so they offer the award of a scholarship. First grade teachers want first graders that are operating at a certain level out of kindergarten so they are glad that kindergarten teachers offer awards. Not much of a difference, IMO. Big kids in high school/college=big awards; little kids in kindergarten=little awards
I don't know that I would work for free, but I have taken a paycut (years ago, back when I worked)--a substantial one, in excess of 25% cut, because the better paying job was less satisfactory. I've never regretted that decision.
I accepted pay for my job because silly and frivolous as it is, I do still need to eat and pay for a roof over my head.
I don't actually mind going around and around; it's the staying in one place that bores me to tears ;-)
