"SAH doesn't support change, it supports going backwards to the 1950's,"

Statement in a post below.

I wholeheartedly disagree. To me, SAH is a choice. How is that going back to the 1950s, when a lot of women didn't have much of a choice.

Poor parenting in general. I know a lot of parents that raise their kids with a sense of entitlement. If the slightest thing goes wrong for them, they run to the rescue fighting with everyone until they feel their baby has the best. There are also a lot of parents that feel their child can do no wrong, and deserves every material thing their little heart desires.

When I was in high school, I was the only one of my friends that had "chores". That is pathetic. These people had NOTHING they were responsible for around the house, and it's not like they had a job. I think people baby their kids too much and that's what comes from it. Not from a few stickers and trinkets here and there in school. IMO it is close to blaming obesity on the school lunch. Nevermind what the parents do at home, it must be caused by that one meal at school.

But, do you think pizza coupons are given out everytime a book is read? Don't you think that these children can read just for the love of reading? Like I said before a piece of pizza is not impossible to get.

disclaimer: just using pizza coupons as an example. My childrens' school does not do this.

"You'd be very hard-pressed to find many Einsteins these days."

You'd be very hard-pressed to find many Einsteins in any age for that matter.

That's a pretty big assumption there.

I LOVE to read. I would spend entirely too much of my time reading if there weren't other things that needed to get done. My son had a very difficult start. I am under the impression (and maybe this is because I love it so much) that if you just give it a chance...the more you do it the more you will love it. It happened to work that way with my son, and I think if you are giving the kids books they are interested in, they will like it after enough practice.

Why am I supposed to feel haunted? What does giving a child a birthday present have to do with incentive programs at schools?

I don't know. My kids brains are smart enough to see the trinket as junk. And my kids aren't even particularly bright.

<<Boy, I would have a hard time convincing DS to go to school every day. He absolutely hates school - it is rather boring and mundane to him - but when his teacher introduces contests to him, he get a little excited. >>

You know, I guess I might think about this differently if my sons felt that way.

Well, if you refuse to consider the evidence that incentive programs can be harmful and often have the exact opposite effect that they set out to achieve, then I guess you will never realize why it's helpful to question their use.

I'm not sure I get the connection between saying that pizza coupons and plastic stuff in return for doing their homework = saying that all awards are bad.
