"SAH doesn't support change, it supports going backwards to the 1950's,"

Statement in a post below.

I wholeheartedly disagree. To me, SAH is a choice. How is that going back to the 1950s, when a lot of women didn't have much of a choice.

It's both.

We have the same sort of gutter grates. You don't fish the thing out of the bottom of the grate (you can't). You fish it out of the gutter or out of the newly fallen leaves on top of the grate before it can fall through the little holes of the grate and be swept down the outflow pipe and into the creek.

I haven't fished the widgets out of the gutter because our schools don't do that and so there aren't many toys in the gutter. But other trash does wind up there. Especially candy wrappers. I fish those out and throw them away before they can get sucked through the grate.

It isn't a peculiar sight at all. Lois isn't the only one doing it nor am I. It's just a bit of litter pick-up and lots of people do it if they aren't in a huge hurry or don't have their hands full carrying other things.

I haven't lost any sleep over it yet.

Isn't there quite a bit of difference between fishing things out of a grate and seeing them in the gutters?

Oh, ok, I thought you might have had a bias against public schools or something.

I bake cookies once in awhile. I don't do it to reward dd for being good- although I won't do it if she's been so beastly that I'm angry with her. I bake cookies once in awhile because the raw weather (New England) makes warm cookies particularly welcome. Pizza also isn't tied to good behavior. It's something we do when she's getting together with friends. It's possible to do fun things with kids without it being a specific reward for something they did.

That's not what you said. You said that your children were too smart to value those things, which is a direct implication that others aren't smart. I guess some kids get symbolism and some don't.

Same here. In a public school no less...yikes.
