"SAH doesn't support change, it supports going backwards to the 1950's,"

Statement in a post below.

I wholeheartedly disagree. To me, SAH is a choice. How is that going back to the 1950s, when a lot of women didn't have much of a choice.

You could do your part by explaining how you get a perfect attendance award in your district, followed by some kind of explanation why my birthday gift closet is relevant to the discussion at hand????

perfect attendance is achieved quite easily. if you're healthy enough to go to school, you make it to school by first bell,7:55.

i'll answer your next question in a different post. i really would like this thread to reach 3000. ;)

I would rather my kids not associate holidays with junk food. ;)

"Okay, then let's get rid of grades all together. Let's get rid of the honor roll, GPAs, honor society. After all, it is just training kids to work for the best grade possible. "

For what it's worth, Swedish schools are not allowed to give out grades of any kind before 8th grade. Also, as far as I can tell, honor rolls and honor societies don't exist...even when grades are awarded at the high school level. Regular progress reports are provided to the parents and there are regularly scheduled parent-teacher meetings. I have a very good idea of what my children are doing in school and whether or not they are performing at the expected level. I don't really need more information than that. I don't, for example, really need to know whether my child "only" got a B while someone else's child got an A. I only need to know whether my children are mastering the material in the expected fashion.

"perfect attendance is achieved quite easily. if you're healthy enough to go to school, you make it to school by first bell,7:55."

And if you are not healthy you no longer have a perfect attendance. Too bad for those kids with a weaker immune system or a chronic illness.

"Perfect attendance is achieved quite easily, if you're healthy enough to go to school, you make it to school by first bell; 7:55."

"if you're healthy enough to go to school..."

How could you type that sentence without realizing that this discriminates against children with chronic medical conditions who will never have a year when they are healthy enough every single day?

i disagree that it discriminates anymore than say,an honor roll award discriminates. there are some children more *naturally* able to achieve straight a's than the average b or c student. their entitlement for an achievemnet award is no different than the healthier child.

ftr,i don't consider either discrimination. kids deserve to be recognized for their abilities and achievements during a school year....and all kids need to learn to be good sports about it,too. :)

So, why don't you try that as an experiment? Don't make the cookies on those traditional days and see if they fall apart.

I'm betting they wouldn't.
