"SAH doesn't support change, it supports going backwards to the 1950's,"

Statement in a post below.

I wholeheartedly disagree. To me, SAH is a choice. How is that going back to the 1950s, when a lot of women didn't have much of a choice.

Oh, but there are so many wonderful ways for a child to have fun without these silly ault-driven incentive programs!

Why would I want to do that? We all enjoy the cookies. There will come a time when they are too old to care. Right now, they still do, and it's fun. I'm not for trying behavioristic experiments on my kids to see how they handle disappointment. Life offers way too much of that already.

Being heathy throughout the school year is not an "achievement" nor is it an "ability". It's a state of being.

Oh, I'll bet there are some methods you'd disapprove of. Children can be beaten into submission, for instance.

I'm really sorry that your kids aren't getting the kind of education that would keep them stimulated. Have you looked into extra curricular activities? I have my fifth grader taking three musical instruments, French, and an additional math class. He gets plenty of stimulation and doesn't get grades and doesn't seem to care. He does it because he wants to learn the material.

Why would I want my kids to keep practicing skills they have already learned just to keep them busy? I would move them to the next level.

What do you think you called me on? I am quite curious.

I'm sorry your school system is poor at handling gifted kids.

My closest SAH friend homeschools.

Her daughter in one week was offered entry into the gifted program, then received a letter saying she'd be held back due to poor attendance. She is sick a lot - just like her Mom.

Poor kid. She is now testing about 2 grades ahead (with a whole 2 hours/day of schooling LOL) - a real dilemna to her parents who'd like to put her back in the school system in a few years. She'll be bored to death.

So apparently, the grade award is canceled out by the attendance award. LOL.

(FWIW my new charter school has NO incentives (i.e. "treasure chest") - the teachers & parents decided they were all bad ideas - children should do the right thing because it's the RIGHT THING and develop internal motivators - not learn to rely on external rewards......)
