"SAH doesn't support change, it supports going backwards to the 1950's,"

Statement in a post below.

I wholeheartedly disagree. To me, SAH is a choice. How is that going back to the 1950s, when a lot of women didn't have much of a choice.

I guess it makes certain debaters feel that they are actually debating.

Hmmm, I don't know if I would particularly like that sort of program for my kids. In many ways, the peer-to-peer interaction is one of the most important aspects of their school day.

Ah ok. My oldest is in 5th and youngest is in 1st. They are no where near high school yet :-).

"I can't check their progress but the HS parents can."

Did I read this correctly to mean that you are not able to check your children's progress?

Most of ds's class had cell phones by the end of 3rd grade. Ds didn't get his until this year (5th grade). He uses it pretty much every day to call me and let me know when he is on his way home from school (he usually takes public transportation). It's certainly not a need, but it's a dirt cheap toy that makes him feel less nervous about going home from school alone.

Not on the internet like HS parents can. The grade school and middle school kids do not have grades like the HS kids so there is no information to put in that type of program. Parents of grade school/middle school kids that are not grasping the materials get reports sent home periodically but the ones that are doing fine do not. I can figure out where my kids are by the papers, etc that they bring home on a daily basis. No problems yet.

You do what you gotta do. Their teachers don't know what else to do with them LOL That is why I don't enroll my kids in a lot of academic programs outside of school to further enhance what they are getting. They miss out on that aspect of school during the day so I have them spend a lot of time with friends outside of school so that they get that social interaction.

It might be just for show 'n tell, but I'll bet it's not free.
