"SAH doesn't support change, it supports going backwards to the 1950's,"

Statement in a post below.

I wholeheartedly disagree. To me, SAH is a choice. How is that going back to the 1950s, when a lot of women didn't have much of a choice.

The fact that children grow up fast is more incentive to keep your career going, to me.

Now, would that be because they're all over-involved? Under-involved? Likely to hit on your dh or get hit on by him? Likely to get called "Mommy" by mistake? Likely to leave you high and dry at a moment's notice? All of the above...?

If you WOH but make no effort to engage your child about your work in any way, then it will be a mystery to them. Same as if you don't involve yourself in your child's education, you might not know much about what he does at school. It's all what you make it.

The taint is still there because sah isn't respected as the work that it is. Women are their own worst enemies. We want equality but we cut off out noses to spite our faces.Iow, many working women degrade sahms for their choice(vice versa as well)spouting that sahms are taking the easy way out because it isn't necessary for them to be at home...blah,blah blah...If we really want equality we need to respect each others choices. If sah with kids got the respect it deserved more men would likely opt to be sahds which in many ways can improve the situation in the work force for women.

Precisely. We want equality, but some of us refuse to see some women as equals of other women based simply on their choices. We will never move forward at this rate. We are just sabotaging ourselves.

I've known several WOHMs who are helicopter moms. I'd have to say, probably just as many as those who are SAHMs.

In fact, my first experience with one was back b/f the term even existed. The family that lived next door to me growing up was a dual-income family. I babysat the two kids. If there was ever a helicopter mom, she was one. The stories my mother has told me, to this day (the daughter graduated Harvard Med school and is now an orthopedic surgeon in her early 30s) are just jaw-dropping. That mom was the role model for the type of mom I would NEVER aspire to be.

I don't think being a helicopter parent has anything to do with one's work status.

**WOH at some less than desirable career or job when one's children are older just because the children need college money would be a drag.**

I agree, but if you have adequately prepared, that wouldn't be a concern.
