"SAH doesn't support change, it supports going backwards to the 1950's,"

Statement in a post below.

I wholeheartedly disagree. To me, SAH is a choice. How is that going back to the 1950s, when a lot of women didn't have much of a choice.

Really, it all comes down to hard work.

If you are willing to work hard enough, and you have the skills, you can do almost anything.

You said it wasn't possible to see the value of something you hadn't experienced. You didn't experience family vacations as a child, yet you saw value to doing it for your own family. Similarly, someone who doesn't attend college can see the value in college and influence his or her own child to attend.

Your own desire for family vacations may well have come from somewhere else, but it's not possible for you to know where other people's influences come from. It's simply not true that a parent who doesn't attend college can't influence his or her own child to go to college. Mine did.

And again, will you have any influence over your children in terms of careers? Or are you precluded from that because you don't work?

i'm sorry i didn't answer that question before.....no. i don't think a career influence for my kids will come from me. dh,sure. someone whose career they admire or something that ignites career interest, yes. me,no..if i was a career minded individual whose niche was found in an outside job, sure. but it's not.

what i can influence is the example i set which includes loving what you do,finding a purpose individual to you, education and faith because that's what i live.

At least you're consistent. I understand what you're saying, but I think this attitude is not only inaccurate, but can lead to complacency. I can't possibly experience everything that my kids will be faced with, but that doesn't mean I'm powerless to influence their choices.

My husband doesn't have and never will have a degree, I didn't know he was going to be regretful about it later! LOL He does very well for himself, I think that some people with college degrees think that it makes them special. Arrogance is so becoming. LOL

The U.S. Dept. of Education estimates about 24 million Americans are functionally illiterate, which makes up a vast group.

College is one of those things that some people are suited for and some people aren't. Your statement that there isn't much of anything someone could do after highschool besides college is pretty arrogant IMO. Then again, I think any opinion that college is the end all be all of success is arrogant.

Of course it is; I'm truly not getting how anyone can fail to get this, especially a parent!
