And hence my comment that 6 years is truly a drop in the bucket. Even if it ends up being 1/10 of a person's life - especially then! If I only get 60 some odd years on this planet, I want to spend those years doing what *I* feel is truly important. I can't imagine that at the end of her life, P&JM's mom said or thought that she wished she had worked more. I do think it is important to do what fulfills you. I have struggled to be a full time AHP (oops there I go again... how do you phrase it so it doesn't offend??). What I strive for now is balance. I don't think it harms my children if I WAH or if I WOH p/t or periodically. It most certainly won't harm them if I work while they are in school, but what is important to me is that I seize each and every moment I can with them.

And it *does* matter. It did to me.

Yep. Exactly. That is exactly why I SAH. Because I wanted to take care of my child myself. I missed him!

"I sometimes have way more in common with other women who have four children, regardless of work status, than I might have with another SAHM with only one child." I'm sure that's true, but I have the funny feeling you're thinking right now of SIL, who indeed sounds like a special case, LOL. I suspect you usually have way more in common with other women who have any number of children, regardless of work status, than you do with SIL, period.

I hadn't thought of that. But it makes sense. BTW, you would probably have even less in common with my SIL, despite some surface similarities. She found a way to go shopping at least once each day she was here... She's the kind who knew what Jimmy Choos were before they made their way to In Style magazine, primarily because she already owned a few pairs.

What are Jimmy Choos?

Well said. And no one should be offended with what you want to do with your time....or I mean, it shouldn't offend them. I still don't think 6 years is a drop in the bucket....maybe because I lost my mom and I wished I had more time with her? It's only been 4 years since she passed away and the cancer took her VERY fast. So, time is important when I think of it in that sense. Am I making sense? I need more coffee...I'm on PST and I"m not fully awake! LOL
