It's a variance in the responsibility level that amazes me.

I was rather flippant when I quit my full time stressful job to take a part time job. I really wanted to do it...I was so stressed out. Devin was undergoing chemo and radiation. I had a new baby and a 4 year old and a longer commute. I decided I would take the job and hope and pray.

It worked out...there were some bumps but it worked in the end. I did not give up a career, though. Just more money.

Well, flippancy is not the same thing as despair :(.

My Mom was the reverse. WHILE dad was doing chemo etc. us kids all took turns staying at the hospitals (sometimes they'd even let us sleep over - we knew ALL the hospital cafeterias in the Med Center before too long!).

I just mean that if they lose their homes so quickly it's probably because they bought more than they could afford.

Being a teacher is typically done by women. Being an engineer is typically done my men. Is the picture any clearer for you?

No, I mean if he couldn't work our expenses are such that we could easily pay for the necessities if I worked for 9$ an hr.... I can easily make more than that, but we can survive fine on that.

I understand. But that means your DH would be willing to SAH while you did said $9/hour job - till he found something else :) :) which goes back to my men-being-willing-to-hands-on-parent statement.
