If it would make her feel better you could say your salary goes to the mortgage payment and food (etc, whatever it adds up to) and then dh's salary pays the cable and phone bills, and all the fun stuff. That way, his salary is the frivolous one.

ACK! Where is the puke icon? I couldn't stand to live as the way the lives have been portrayed & ways of thinking. To begin with, narrow minded views is just not my thing. I'm more of a free thinker & allowing all to express themselves & live as they wish.

Oh I don't know. It is more fun telling her the truth. I work for blowing money! I enjoy reading your posts btw.

What is there to be ashamed of? My husband makes good money. He supports himself, his wife, his baby. All on his own. We take my money & use it for enjoying life so we can invest his excess to buy a home when we move later in the year. I see nothing to be ashamed of when we decided we would take my salary for blowing money. It was my option to even work. I went from ft to pt since my mil only could come mornings. I was lucky to find a job when we moved here that would allow that flexibility. I'm just going to sah when we move. There is nothing to be ashamed of for him or me. Not to us.

Strangely, I have heard the comment of "working for my toys" or "working for the weekend" (and even "working to blow the money" a few times) from a lot of male engineers over the years. I don't think I have heard it much (if at all) since the dot com crash, but during the boom it was absolutely the "in" attitude. People didn't work for a living...they were working to afford all the fun stuff they wanted to have and retire early with piles of cash to blow. Of course, not everyone got to live the dream, but enough did that it made the Bay Area a pretty obnoxious place to live for some years. It's gotten better since the crash.
