by the way -- don't let her fool you -- her house is BEAUTIFUL and very tastefully decorated, YET, it is homey and comfortable and felt right at home.

Why does it matter how I spend my days? I mean really. Who is to say how anyone spends their days? My hubby & I agree on how we are living our lives, so who else should be consulted or care? Yes, I do disagree. I don't think women need to work to empower themselves & I don't think a woman needs to make a financial contribution to the marriage or that the financial contribution she makes should be for the cost of living if it isn't needed & the man & woman agree.

I WOHPT & my money isn't for us to live on but neither of us feel the way you are describing. I stick my checks into a savings account & his go in the regular checking. We both have access to them. He doesn't question what I pull money out of savings to buy & I don't question him. Meaning we don't have to talk about it first whether it is 20 bucks or 200 bucks. Same goes for the checking account. We do pay all our expenses out of it & we don't touch the money in the savings to write out for the apt rent or utilities.

There are women like me that don't care about the "consequences".

I'd still prefer that. It is the charm element. My hubby wants to look in new developments. I'm trying to sway him to the older districts & subdivisions. I think it would be neat to fix up an old home. I keep telling him we could make it new ourselves. Maybe we will meet halfway and buy a home with a few years on it but not a brand new one. I'm just excited I'll be sah when we move. I wasn't sure about it at first, but now I'm going yah.

I think that sometimes (not all the time, and I'm certainly not meaning you in particular) those who feel their salary isn't necessary can be less likely to be motivated, and less likely to strive for excellence since there is no loss if they lose their job.

Regarding "the career thing", as I mentioned I am lucky to live in a state in which all of the teachers that I know of consider teaching their career, regardless of whether or not they strive toward one day being appointed principal or superintendent. Teaching is their career, and the more experience they get, the better teachers they become. In turn, the more seniority they have, the more opportunities are offered that may be attractive to them (i.e. first choice of classes to teach or even which schools within the district they wish to teach.) Beyond that, because teaching is their career and not merely a job, their hours go far beyond school hours. They spend hours each evening on lesson plans and grading papers, often go back to school in the evenings to meet with parents at their convenience or participate in extra-curricular activities or PTA meetings, and they often telephone parents from home to discuss concerns about students. I think you would agree that a dedicated, involved teacher who is in it for the long term is most beneficial to his or her students.

I am sure that you went into teaching because you love it. However, I think you may be doing your fellow teachers a disservice by referring to the teaching profession as merely a job. The teachers I know take pride in defining themselves as teachers, because it is an integral part of who they are as people. That's more than simply a job.

Well, thank you, Eileen! The thing you said about it being homey and comfortable is exactly the feel I try for. Thank you, thank you.

But you haven't seen the wiring! LOL! But after we get the kitchen done, new windows and siding, I'll love it more than I do now.

Wrong on both counts.

Obviously, you have no idea how your posts scream "put me on a pedestal because I am the saviour of all womankind." Only no matter
