With your 2 yo, now is the time to start. When she (he? I forget) still thinks that it's a game to toss the clothes into the dirty clothes basket. 2 is when mine started to sort and match socks. Every one had different socks to make it easy for them to sort. Great learning activity as well. Just don't worry about neatness.
