I stand by that remark...and i clarified to you that i was discussing school aged children and you accused me of baiting or copping out. which is not true.

Working can mean volunteering, working around the home, i did not say wohp i should have been more clear my mistake i understand what your are saying.

I brought it into the discussion b/c somone claimed that their dcp their sister their grandmother was not a part of their upbring they were not a part of their being raised then she went on to claim that teachers are dcp and babysitters.

I also have many friends and family who are teachers and they do not consider themselves babysitters nannies or day care providers...

none of the teachers i know would specifically call themselves "babysitters nannies or day care providers," but they would all agree that they are caregivers as well as instructors, and none would ever say that what a degreed and certified educator in a good dc environment does is essentially different than what they do. as another poster already noted, there are differences in the amount and type of caregiving required at different ages, but the education and care of children cannot be unbundled.

Well, I dropped my first grader off at 8:00 this morning, and I'm counting on someone at that school to take care of him until he is picked up at 3:30. He's not old enough to take care of himself all day.

Perhaps your elementary schools are run like college campuses, where children come and go as they please and attend classes as they choose, but I'm afraid that the children in our area don't seem to be ready for that.

And not only that, but I must have missed those federal guidelines regarding minimum daily requirements
