Usually because the child wants to -- it's a fun thing to do after school. Sometimes because it fits in better with the schedules of other siblings. Lots of kids with SAHP's go to aftercare here. It's cheap and fun, why not let them do it sometimes?

Actually, though, the fact that so many parents in this area SAH is the reason that so many can use aftercare. From what I understand, in areas with more working parents, aftercare is difficult to get into and often requires use every day. In our area you can just send them for a couple hours once or twice a week if you like.

Seriously, I don't doubt you. If I did, I would've used my eye roll or winkie icon.

LOL about my ADA buddies. Most of them are good people.

What does this have to do with the debate?

I agree but I can see the teachers side of it too. They don't want to put themselves in any position to be charged with anything. Maybe it's over-vigilance, who knows.

*edited to fix a word. Blame it on lack of sleep*

Wait...I've pinpointed exactly where the problem's coming in here....

Actually, this is what she said:

http://messageboards.ivillage.com/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=iv-pssahwoh&msg=17171.212&x=y

"Ill tell my friend Nora who's a kindergarten teacher that shes a liar when she says some days she feels more like shes babysitting than teaching."

No one said she WAS a babysitter...just that sometimes she feels as if she is. Big difference.

I am an office manager for an architecture firms. Some days, I feel like a sanitation worker. Does that mean that I think office managers and sanitation workers are the same thing? (LOL...maybe I should come up with a better example, because more and more, I'm starting to think that they ARE the same thing.) ;-)
