Is the SAHM the new status symbol?

In the 70's and 80's women fought to get into the workforce (the whole Ms. magazine generation)...and then the tide turned in the late 1990's when more women started to stay home by choice. Now, it seems like being a SAHM is a status symbol....and superior to being a working mom.

But your sons have to work and can't be SAHDs (if you have sons)?

I've answered that. It is frowned upon. The family believe men should work, not be at the club or on the greens.

Let me spell it out for you:

The double standard is that >>Women are encouraged to do whatever they please whether it be a career or the leisure life<< (your exact words) but Men are NOT encouraged to do whatever they please. They are encouraged only to work.

I know *your* DH is doing as he desires, which is work. But what if another man doesn't WANT to work? Based on your way of thinking, he's still encouraged to work regardless.

Can you not see what I mean?? I can't be any clearer.

BUT WHY NOT THE WOMEN? I see in obtaining neither of your college degrees did you take a course in logic.

If you have a penis, you have to work? If you don't, you can do whatever you want? Now this is a load of bull hockey. Are you, like, 80 years old?

I was speaking of our family (my immediate and our inlaws). I wasn't speaking in general terms so why did you post? Sure, for others who believe that way, it is. I agree.

That was only 1 thing. And thank you for verifying you're just making this stuff up as you go along. I didn't think you had any actual sources for your claims; just wanted to verify it by giving you the chance to present them. And you did, with your usual aplomb.

That was the policy when I worked in the field. That is the policy today in Dh's hotel.

I agree 100%. This a blatant double standard.
