Is the SAHM the new status symbol?

In the 70's and 80's women fought to get into the workforce (the whole Ms. magazine generation)...and then the tide turned in the late 1990's when more women started to stay home by choice. Now, it seems like being a SAHM is a status symbol....and superior to being a working mom.

Well, at least that's an HONEST solution, unlike skimming tax money and failing to report income. :)

It is just how the family is and has been for years and years and year. That's it. All of it.

LOL No I'm no where close to 80! Just feel like it when debating w/some of you people!

Yes. Aren't you getting it? The men *have* to work (or else they'll be frowned upon) and the women don't. Only women get to "live the life they desire"!

Oh I see it clearly. We just disagree.

So why is it OK for women? and why don't you think that that isn't a double standard? Aren't you insulted?

That bridge has never been crossed. I've never met a man any where IRL that wantd to be a SAHH/D. We have two girls.

Well, make up your mind. Her attitude *can't* be nasty if you don't have any issues with garbage collectors. The only way you can be offended by the comparison is if you have issues of your own. You can't have it both way, no matter if you like Islim or not.

But not in your own home. *You* don't have to be environmentally friendly, just the guests at your DH's hotel.

But don't you see anything wrong with raising daughters to be princesses and men to have to have a "head for business"? I am asking quite seriously. Wouldn't you feel compelled to get a job or do more serious volunteering, etc. if your family "frowned upon" your life?

Didn't you say even close family members had no right to comment on how you live your life? But they are free to frown upon your DH if he lived off his money? Do you see how one sided this is?

I personally find nothing insulting about it. Dh and I are living our lives as we desire and couldn't ask for more.

Because men are expected to work (old fashion concept, I know, but that is the way it is).
