Is the SAHM the new status symbol?

In the 70's and 80's women fought to get into the workforce (the whole Ms. magazine generation)...and then the tide turned in the late 1990's when more women started to stay home by choice. Now, it seems like being a SAHM is a status symbol....and superior to being a working mom.

But why, in your family's opinion, by virtue of his anatomy, does your DH have to work/ contribute to society? WHY?

I'm curious. What business is "the family" in. How did they make all that money?

But men can't stay home if they desire that lifestyle!

Let me ask you - why is staying home so great for you and not DH? You say he's a workaholic, but that there's also family pressure to work. How would you feel if he came home one day and said he wanted to SAH too?

I tell you, it's d'ja vue (sp). Islim said it was better than TV, and she's right. I slip in every few hours when I need a break and am usually rolling on the floor after three or four posts. Your one on grout killed me.

They simply don't think men should live a life of leisure. They should go out and work! It really is an easy concept and you are making it so hard. I know this just blows your mind and you abhore the whole idea. But you what. You aren't living it. We are and we love it!

Um, I did! Have at it means if a man wants to be live the life of leisure, be a sahd, I could care less! And we are talking about the history of dh's family that has been that way for years. I could care less what men do or don't do as long as they are living as they desire.

I said "have at it" meaning go for the gusto, have your life your way.

Dh is a workaholic. He thrives on his work & loves his chosen career. He doesn't want to do what I do. But I do. We both get what we want in life. While there is family pressure, dh has never felt it, because he'd work anyway. The man loves to work (that is why he just called and said he'd be home after 10 LOL)

I could care less if he wanted to SAH. I have no issues w/men living leisure life style and I personally don't frown upon it. That would be my inlaws :o)
