Is the SAHM the new status symbol?

In the 70's and 80's women fought to get into the workforce (the whole Ms. magazine generation)...and then the tide turned in the late 1990's when more women started to stay home by choice. Now, it seems like being a SAHM is a status symbol....and superior to being a working mom.

Okay. I was being sarcastic fatecious (spelling)"juvenile" as you claim. I never claimed that my experience is divorce law just factual of my own lengthy drawn out divorce. I took him to the cleaners. =)

You mean "höra" ? Isn't that pretty close to the norwegian word for listen? I think it is hore with the slash through the o in norwegian (don't have that letter on my keyboard :-)).

Hehe, the languages are very close but there are some potentially hilarious misunderstandings. BTW, there is a daily morning talk show that features the Norwegian "word of the day": callers have to guess what the Norwegian word actually means. The words are really bizarre (ok, to us Swedish speaking folk :-)) and the guesses are even more fun. Speaking of possibilities for mistranslations... I always have a huge laugh around the time that stores are having their final sales. The word for sale in Swedish is "rea" and the word for final is "slut". So pasted all over the place are signs for "slutrea" or "slut sales" as I always end up reading it :-))).

Enjoy your babies! We just got two 12 week old kittens a couple of weeks ago and our hands are very full with them right now.

Okay I'm supposed to be staying away from the boards, but I just have to jump in a sec here. I work as a hostess in a high end restaurant. The waiters where I work make an *average* of about 75k a year. Not rolling in the dough, but not total chickenfeed either. I work 12 hrs a week and make (with tips) roughly 14k a year. Granted, where I work the hourly pay is pretty high-the owners take good care of their employees. But I do know that there are many other restaurants where you can make that kind of money, where $200 a night in tips is totally normal.

It can be a sucky job, just like any service industry type/blue collar job (or like any corporate job, for that matter-all jobs suck at one time or another!). But it certainly CAN be lucrative.

Islimshady - don't hate me, but I am also compelled on your birthday weekend to point out that you are turning 44 and I am a mere babe in the woods at not even 38 and a half.
