Is the SAHM the new status symbol?

In the 70's and 80's women fought to get into the workforce (the whole Ms. magazine generation)...and then the tide turned in the late 1990's when more women started to stay home by choice. Now, it seems like being a SAHM is a status symbol....and superior to being a working mom.

I always tip 20%, because the math is easier.

I will also tip more if the bill is really small; my minimum tip is $2.00.

I think it makes a difference where you're working. Since people tip a percent of the tab, someone working in a high-end restaraunt can easily make triple what someone in a low-end place can make.

My high-school boyfriend became a career waiter. He was really good at it, and back in the 70's could earn more in a night than I made in a week. I'm sure that gap closed a bit once I moved out of hourly-paid type jobs, but he's managed to support himself all these years without a problem. I think now he's

I thought best to delete after reading responses.

Maxchandler is a friend & a lady. I respect her. I chat with her daily over at our board. I'd never want to offend or betray her trust.

I've sent a copy of this posting with my apologies for engaging in a discussion about her to her email. I wanted to admit that I was wrong for posting & I wanted to make sure she knew exactly what I said.

I totally agree, high end rest servers make the great money, I worked on south beach for 2 seasons after my first marriage and I could make 500.00 a nite no problem. I also think it does have to do with where you are living. Bussers in high end resturaunts can make a pretty darn good lump of money by the end of every nite. I do know that in my area and the areas I have lived in that a ihop waitress can still pull in a decent amount of money...I dont think $100-$150 dollars for a ihop breakfast waitress on a average morning is un lucrative and im quessing by your attuitde neither do you.

I always wanted to be a maitre'd but never was offered the position. :-/ I didnt have the style i quess...so I settled for bar manager than food and bev manager.

Our local wing dive the girls have a large amount of tables I say 10-13 a nite they turn em and burn em and people stand in line to eat there... these girls make fanaminal tips. Most all the waitress their are single mothers too so I tend to overtip them.

I think the thing that bugs me the most about this whole issue is the streotype people carry about servers... but on the other hand i do believe that most servers do NOT claim 100% of the tips. They only claim a percentage of their sales and uncle sam leaves them alone. So it is a double edge sword here. I also know immagrant's work illegally in this buisness perfect example dishwashers... they get a social security card from a friend or relative and that is accepted. What is one to do...

Well, it's no wonder the two of you are friends. Max was always living in the pages of entertainment type trash magazines, through TV shows about celebrities, and often tried to model her life around celebrities and even the characters they play on TV and in the movies. Sound like the two of you have the same thinking process, right down to using words the same words she does, like old fashion, gabbing and spiffy and referring to female friends as girls or ladies. The similarities are amazing.

Do you always describe people by what size they wear? I think it's odd you would do that here. You could have said she's a petite brunette with blue eyes and a great smile. Yet, you go on and on in such detail that you really just proved OTBM's point.

I really am happy that she had another child since she always wanted to. Was it a boy or a girl?

And are none of us invited to your other board? :)

I was going to ask the same thing. Sounds like a fun place. But my guess is real women aren't invited.

Why would she want to invite you to that board just to disrupt it with the stalker like behavior shown for this so called max person? Your inquesitiveness is bordering on obsessive. You asked, she answered, yet it wasn't how you wanted her to answer. Her only mistake was taking you seriously.

Let me guess. You want to know how many showers a day and all the details on clean linens then turn that around to bash also?

This childish behavior is worse than a mob of high school teenagers giggling & pointing.

No. What is amazing is the obsessive, stalker like behavior being apparent about this poster. Get a life!
