Is the SAHM the new status symbol?

In the 70's and 80's women fought to get into the workforce (the whole Ms. magazine generation)...and then the tide turned in the late 1990's when more women started to stay home by choice. Now, it seems like being a SAHM is a status symbol....and superior to being a working mom.

Really? You can't imagine or see another situation? I am not a SAHM, but i can imagine what is would be to SAH. I work FT, but I can certainly imagine what it would be to work PT.

Of course I dont have to respect him...but I do with a very high regard b/c he is worthy of my respect and if i desire him to respect me than I shall respect him.

Have you ever owned a buisness? if not with the attitiude you carry you may not keep loyal, dedicated, hard working, respectable employess and your buisness would fail drastically. Respect is key in successful business....no offense just one clear cut experinced business owners opinion.

We obviously have to same value on marriage and honoring our vows. I have been married befor to a man who EXPECTED me to be subservent he was a full blooded georgeous Italian evil abusive man he was not a partner he was a controller. He could do as he pleased.

My dh has never expected me to do something for him b/c im his wife, we do these things b/c we love each other dearly and we honor each other.

I would not have to worry if I hire a attractive nanny that would be the least of my worries. Our marriage just is not made that way.

All that stuff is domestic and/or stuff most people do on vacation. I'm just not geared to do that 7 days a week - I'd be bored stiff. Totally a personality thing and not a SAH vs. WOH thing.

Completley agree with you that it is a personality difference but gives you no reason to believe that anyone is unworthy of your respect.

I could never put on pantyhose and a suit everyday and go into a court room or stuffy office, that is why i did not pursue my career or my degree, Im simply not interested. Does this make me less worhty of your respect? not imo. I prefer to work outside with the horses giving riding lessons to children caring for the horses and animals, breeding animals, riding, jumping and running the horses preparing for horse shows...one of the most amazing moments in life is to watch a animal bring her babies into the world. Dig in the gardens, make lunch from my veggie and herb garden one great salad let e tell you. Volunteer work with under priveleaged families, aids babies, abused women, drug addicted women...who deserve every ounce of my respect and to volunteer at my childrens schools and our church.

However sinceI have joined this board i spend a lot of time here when i should be outside pursuing what makes me truly fufilled.

But you're working, not sitting around pursuing leisure activities all day every day. You're just working at different things.

PS - I would hate it if I had to wear pantyhose every day too!
