Is the SAHM the new status symbol?

In the 70's and 80's women fought to get into the workforce (the whole Ms. magazine generation)...and then the tide turned in the late 1990's when more women started to stay home by choice. Now, it seems like being a SAHM is a status symbol....and superior to being a working mom.

She said *she* thought 2-3 showers daily are excessive and not *needed*. I disagree.

She said *she* thought changing sheets and towels daily is excessive and not *needed*. I disagree.

Disagree on both points.

I get up every morning at least 30 minutes b4 dh and make coffee, his breakfast and his lunch. I'm sorry I didn't know until now that made me white trash!

No. She is a nanny. Has a degree in childcare. She is guaranteed to be paid a certain amount of hours per week whether she works or not. It is a job. We have sitters we call to come when she can't on a Sat night while we go out for dinner. They may be here once every 2 or 3 months. They are sitters.

The lawn tech does far more than just mowing. He could work more than 3 days a week if we asked.

I was being facetious, because the thread in which you are participating is one that states that BECAUSE muffins and toast has all that help, she is shallow. I don't actually think you are, nor do I think she is. But I wonder why one would be surprised that someone who can afford it would have that sort of help, and not realize that someone like me may be surprised that you could possibly need your nanny to ever cook.

I thought you were disagreeing on the "limited resources" comment.

BTW -- what *is* your thought on this?

I don't *think* 2-3 showers daily are excessive and wasteful. They ARE. Period. It is wasting energy and water. Same with washing sheets/towels daily.

I simply cannot understand why you think otherwise. To reask iaudrey's question: Do you believe we have an infinite amount of these resources at your disposal?

Well, I *would* hand you a glass of water since you're out of breath, but it's all gone! It's been used up on multiple showers and washing all those damn sheets & towels!!

Ahhh, it all becomes clearer now.

Do you live in the Hotel? I know someone who's husband is General Manager of a large resort in Florida - they live on the grounds free, plus get daily maid service and, if they like, room service meals, all compliments of the hotel.

This might explain all the "help". I thought I had the pretention pegged, and now I'm sure of it. Geez, that even explains the "no pets allowed on the property" statement.

Thanks for the laugh, I'm usually pretty good at spotting posers and sure enough, I had your number from the very first post.
