Is the SAHM the new status symbol?

In the 70's and 80's women fought to get into the workforce (the whole Ms. magazine generation)...and then the tide turned in the late 1990's when more women started to stay home by choice. Now, it seems like being a SAHM is a status symbol....and superior to being a working mom.

What is your problem? You just can't justify how others live their lives in ways you don't approve? Some people! S.V.

Well, it's certainly a good thing I don't care what you think of me & my sarcasm. So I will proceed on with or without your comments.

Besides, why in the world would you think my oh so sarcastic post was remotely related to you?

I take your point about Princess Di. But the reason not to respect Manson is because he caused so much damage. There is a huge difference between living a life of leisure that has little impact on the world at large, and living a life that actually causes damage. That's why I concentrate on end results, not on amount of activity. Industriousness that causes damage is far worse that idleness that has no effect at all.

I bet that the number of wealthy SAHMs who do literally nothing but self-pamper is far below the number of people who work work work in endeavors (paid or volunteer) that (IMO) make the world a worse place.

Oh right. Your hotel manager husband can hire a nearly fulltime gardener, cook, and nanny. 'Fess up, they work for the hotel and we all know it. Don't make a fool of yourself, I'd have more respect for you if you would just come clean and admit that you get all this help because it's a wonderful perk of your husband's career. Anyone would be a fool not to utilize those services. At least you won't come across as a pampered do nothing mom, but rather a SAHM who's lucky enough to get some nice perks from hubby's employer.

The fact that you're presenting yourself as something you're not is kind of pathetic.
