Is the SAHM the new status symbol?

In the 70's and 80's women fought to get into the workforce (the whole Ms. magazine generation)...and then the tide turned in the late 1990's when more women started to stay home by choice. Now, it seems like being a SAHM is a status symbol....and superior to being a working mom.

Yeah, but your rendition of "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" is entertaining as hell!

Oh, please, this is an Internet BB, not the freaking CIA. It's not like her identity was leaked to this board under orders from Karl Rove or anything. Get a grip!

This just gets better and better! A personal accountant who writes your checks for you, all that on a hotel manager's salary! Wow. Or are you talking about the accountant who works in the hotel office?

This is so much more fun than TV!

Yes but you can imagine making up a fantasy life on a message board to feel worth something, can't you?

If she was a "her highness", that would make her a princess. Being just an heiress affords you no such title, unless of course you are a princess and an hieress, that is. Maybe she's both. After all, there's some mighty poor royalty out there.

Actually, no, you are wrong. In my opinion, there are two different people. Max is one, and I think she is for real. There is also a troll who posts here frequently -- I think of him/her/it as the board poltergeist. He/she/it uses much of the same "Max" background but goes overboard with it and gets the board in a tizzy. It's never hard to figure it out. You can see it right here in this thread.

The common elements are always the same:

SAH wife / mom

Adores hubby and will do anything to make him happy while he will do anything to make her happy

Doesn't need to work

Loves being an at home mom and loves to gush about it

Never really "debates" issues but uses whatever the debate thread there is to gush on and on about her/his/its perfect life

Usually has one thing he/she/it will go overboard on -- in this case, it's the sheets

And the final factor -- he/she/it loves -- and I mean loves -- to post posts in defense of herself/himself/itself. Many times you can catch this person talking to herself. It's quite hilarious to watch.

Anyhow, carry on. I read parts of the thread and what I read made me LOL. That's all I was really doing. I won't post anymore on this topic. I know better than to get sucked in. LOL BTDT

Yes, so can I. I could, but I disdain it and don't want it.

That's absolutely right.

And should we all give up our meaningful employment and become California beach bums? Would that qualify me in your eyes as having a more meaningful life than actually working?
