Is the SAHM the new status symbol?

In the 70's and 80's women fought to get into the workforce (the whole Ms. magazine generation)...and then the tide turned in the late 1990's when more women started to stay home by choice. Now, it seems like being a SAHM is a status symbol....and superior to being a working mom.

Yes. We own a restaurant & my husband really wants to own a hotel & restaurant together. Part of it is the money earning potential. Since I work along side of him and his brother and his wife are talking about joining us we could make it a family venture. I just want to wait until I birth this baby and see how parenthood is really going to be.

I'd love to waitress in an upscale restaurant & make what some of those girls do waiting tables. Especially in high traffic areas like vacation spots. My husband wants to open another super market and I've always wanted to move away from 'Bama. We are considering moving to a more tourist area. If I were to go to work, I'd be a waitress in a snap. I know it isn't easy work but what my sister-in-law makes working part time is a nice chunk of change.

She definately has no clue about how it is for our life. True. Obvious from reading her posts. I've got to get my dh to read these when he comes in tonight. The only reason I went back to college to earn another degree is I loved school & thought hey, a second career if I wanted to ever use it. Although, I really was just earning the degree. Probably why I have no desire to go back to school again. I don't want to go through the tons of strong coffee, late night studying, cram sessions in the library, ugh! I've done the college thing. Twice. Time to move on....

You are hilarious. Noone has said you don't have a meaningful life. The only person who has said anyone doesn't have a meaningful life is you. I think everyone should be secure enough in their marriage to be ok about not having a job, be it a male or a female. This means nothing as to whether I think everyone should quit their jobs. I just think it's sad to NEED a job for your life to have meaning.
