Is the SAHM the new status symbol?

In the 70's and 80's women fought to get into the workforce (the whole Ms. magazine generation)...and then the tide turned in the late 1990's when more women started to stay home by choice. Now, it seems like being a SAHM is a status symbol....and superior to being a working mom.

Gee. So because we live the lifestyle we do & because of my dh's family money he shouldn't pursue the career of his dreams. Nice. What would you suggest he be? He loves his career. He is doing what he wants in his work. You can disbelieve. You are wrong. But go ahead if that makes your day.

Ok, I accept that you think it's sad that some people need jobs to have meaning in their lives - because I'm one of them.

I don't have a "problem" with it, as in wanting to outlaw that behavior. I have a problem with the fact that she has obviously been given so much, and she doesn't seem to want to return the "much that has been expected" from her personal effort.

Now considering location here...your right mindy from mendinhall missippi is probably not making much money maybe 30,000 a year, but that is good money in missippi. Overall though most waitresses are making big cash money by the end of every shift and it is hard physical work keeps you in great shape too. Shoot a breakfast waitress round these parts at "mels dinner" is rolling in the cash" by the end of every shift... you are holding that typical sterotype of a waitress...they really do make a great living it may be hard to swallow but it is fact AND over half the industry is educated people with degrees who cant make a living persuing there degree so they wait tables or tend bar and batrenders make more than wait staff. I was a waitress bartender for years than a manager...the first few years as a manager the wait staff doubled my yearly income. Our waiters Make more than 100,000 a year...easy, just from tips and the dont have to claim it all.... There are many people who are regualrs in a establishment and they have ther favorites and will hand them 20.00,50.00,100.00 tips just for serving them a drink or meal. Unbelievable.

What are you talking about??? Remeber the Hawthorn in chatham?? The proprety worth billions of dollars> My aunt and uncle own it it they run it hands on with help of their family and there family friends many come over from Sweden and Norway for summers...shoot their daughter was in housekeeping and not the suprevisor for years...they are loaded, the hawthorne has been in their family for years they opened the place. You forget some people from old money do work average jobs...that is why they have as much family money as they do some even live in million/billion dollar shacks on the beach everbeen to nauset??? i dont think you really grasp the reality of family money, old money. 300,000 a working in politics, law, medicine or engineering a year is not old money. That is chump change for people who own old money. Old money comes from those A typical buisness's that have been around for centuries. Ever heard of Hardees??? My cousin owns em he is old money....lives in Madison Wisconsin.

How bout those plumbers and contractors that are pulling in more money than most if not all degreed careers. College and some plushy title does not give you old money.

i dont think you understand the true concept of family money...old money most of that old money comes from having Atypical jobs they dont have to present a image.

this is just my 2 cents...but it seems you do have a problem with it...if you did not you would not carry on about how this lifestyle life is worthless to YOU> and b/c you have a job your are more worthy of respect. It seems by now like you are trying to talk yourself into this.

I would have to basically agree. Our Bread and butter is important to use but it does not define our existance or create our being. It is just what we do for a living. fufilling who we are come's from within our selves and our home . Some peole have to depend on work statis and money to feel worth while...are very insecure.
