Is the SAHM the new status symbol?
| Tue, 09-23-2003 - 10:36pm |
In the 70's and 80's women fought to get into the workforce (the whole Ms. magazine generation)...and then the tide turned in the late 1990's when more women started to stay home by choice. Now, it seems like being a SAHM is a status symbol....and superior to being a working mom.

I think the "fine dining" type waitresses DO make a nice salary. But the majority of them (those who work at IHOP, Denny's and other family-style restaurants) are probably not making a heck of a lot.

I was laid off and out of work for 5 weeks last year. You know what? I enjoyed the extra time with my kids and my self esteem was not destroyed. I have more going for me than my job.

Hello??! That "amazement" sentence you're responding to was SARCASTIC.
I know quite a few people with old money, and none of them has ever gone on to work for someone else in a service industry. You would recognize the companies and names if I wanted to drop them. If they want to run a restaurant, they buy one. If they want to run a boat charter, they buy a fleet. And none of them has anywhere near the staff (housekeeper, gardener, cook, accountant, nanny), that her highness has. That's the funniest thing about these posts.
Tell me, do your aunt and uncle have such a staff for themselves personally? How about the cousin who owns Hardee's? Bet they don't.
