Is the SAHM the new status symbol?

In the 70's and 80's women fought to get into the workforce (the whole Ms. magazine generation)...and then the tide turned in the late 1990's when more women started to stay home by choice. Now, it seems like being a SAHM is a status symbol....and superior to being a working mom.

I never said that I hired my nanny BECAUSE she is a lesbian. I hired her because she's great with my kids.

No, I saw the part about your sister in law being a waitress. I was asking if you *personally* had done it.

I think the "fine dining" type waitresses DO make a nice salary. But the majority of them (those who work at IHOP, Denny's and other family-style restaurants) are probably not making a heck of a lot.

Well, drop a school bus in my front yard, and pass the three legged dog!

I depend on other things for my self worth, not just my job.

I was laid off and out of work for 5 weeks last year. You know what? I enjoyed the extra time with my kids and my self esteem was not destroyed. I have more going for me than my job.

You r so incorrect and that is a sterotypical remark Perhaps a $120.00 for a breakfast shift at ihop and denny's isnt a lot of money to you but it is for most people. And that is what a waitress pulls in on a average shift in a average resturaunt. Not including her paychecks.

>>HOWEVER you make this claim about how you are amazed at the number of people who do shower and change sheets daily...what about the number of people who dont... that is pretty amazing too... the point your trying to make is moot.<<

Hello??! That "amazement" sentence you're responding to was SARCASTIC.

silver, calm down. I understand the concept of old money very well. Your aunt and uncle OWN the motel they work in, they don't go work in someone else's hotel with all their millions, no one would, unless they were eccentric.

I know quite a few people with old money, and none of them has ever gone on to work for someone else in a service industry. You would recognize the companies and names if I wanted to drop them. If they want to run a restaurant, they buy one. If they want to run a boat charter, they buy a fleet. And none of them has anywhere near the staff (housekeeper, gardener, cook, accountant, nanny), that her highness has. That's the funniest thing about these posts.

Tell me, do your aunt and uncle have such a staff for themselves personally? How about the cousin who owns Hardee's? Bet they don't.
