Is the SAHM the new status symbol?

In the 70's and 80's women fought to get into the workforce (the whole Ms. magazine generation)...and then the tide turned in the late 1990's when more women started to stay home by choice. Now, it seems like being a SAHM is a status symbol....and superior to being a working mom.

Why on earth would a husband get involved in this debate? Mine could care less about it. I mention every now and then stuff said and it is just none of his concern. He doesn't care I read/post but he thinks it is a waste of time for himself.

Then you *don't* need a job to have meaning in your life. Which is a complete flip from what you said earlier. If you have many other things in your life "going for you" other than your job, then why is it such a stretch to think those without one can have meaning ot their lives?

Sorry for not being clear. I do think for me having a career is an important part of who I am. But it's not the only thing holding up my self esteem. If I couldn't work I'd find substitutes for the place work holds in my self esteem, but as it is, work is a part of the picture.

From what I am reading here, it's not a stretch. It's just that what other people do to fill their time that I don't find as meaningful as work.
