Is the SAHM the new status symbol?

In the 70's and 80's women fought to get into the workforce (the whole Ms. magazine generation)...and then the tide turned in the late 1990's when more women started to stay home by choice. Now, it seems like being a SAHM is a status symbol....and superior to being a working mom.

Your right they dont report it all, by law they do not have to that is the thrill of the service business and recieving tips for income. A server does have to claim a percentage of what you are making by law. Another bonus of the buisness. Also for dh and I wait staff only make a small wage so our payroll is quite low~ except for the kitchen. the staff makes theri living off tips.

Clarifying that this is a false post...It is not legal to not claim 100% of your income but most servers find a way to slid by and never be bothered by the IRS/

Huh? I'm no accountant, but I thought you DO need to report ALL income.

Now, I could be wrong, BUT in wait staff jobs, the actual pay scale is different from regular wages when tipping is involved? Employers are allowed by law to lower the actual wage for consideration that there will be tipping. So, because of that, I think you have to claim your tips. Which means you will be taxed on them. When I was in high school and worked at Sonic, we had to claim our tips...and I was in flippin high school. Silverunity, what exactly do you mean by "cash" income? Cash as in how it comes to you? Cash as in you don't have to claim it? Sorry, I am just confused by what you mean.

The IRS I believes assumes wait persons make a certain minimum threshold of income and taxes them on it. But of course you have to report "all income from whatever sources derived." I guess silverunity is saying they don't report a penny more, which is one of the reasons all of our taxes are so high.

Actually, "great googly moogly" isn't a new one - but it's a good one, isn't it! Hmm, there's an advantage of being a SAHM - we're more likely to know the derivation of that one, I'd wager!

The only explanation is that you are not environmentaly conscious and you just don't care about conserving resources, that's all.
