For all the stay at home moms, yes I'm one of them. I have one question, do you plan on going back to work once all of your children are in Elementary school? Or do you like staying at home and have decided to never work again? I am just curious, my husband and I have talked about it. I am mainly home just for my kids, to be here when they come home from school is nice, but, I tend to get bored easly, so I have decided once my 3 year old enters into Elementary school, I will be going back to work. I have thought and thought about this, my husband is fine if I decide not to work or if I decide to go back and work. We are financially stable so I can choose to stay home if I want. I would be working so i won't be bored, while the kids are at school all day long. I do plan on working part time, so i can be home when they get home from school. I'm not the type to sit around and do nothing all day, right now my kids are home half the day at least my 5 year old is, so I have her, and my youngest to be home for. I just can't envision myself sitting here all day long with no children around, going gee what do i do now, ain't gonna happen.

I'm done rambling, waiting for replies!!!!

i disagree that salaries are better, unless you're speaking of college educators.

i just checked our school district website which publishes teacher salaries. elem teacher pay is not separated from middle, high school pay.......advancement and pay increases are determined by years of service.

edited to include that stipends are granted for advanced degrees (masters,ph.ds) at all grade levels.

"Isn't it funny how on the internet the most involved dads are the same one's who work tons of hours? Odd, isn't it?"

Where did you get the idea that I think that anyone who is unsuitable for teaching and knows it ought to enter the teaching profession?

I think that there are many men who would make wonderful teachers at the elementary age who hesitate to "step up to the plate" because of social attitudes and the reality of the difficulty of making a living as an elementary school teacher. I also think there are women who don't take the job because honestly, the younger the child you teach, the less respect you tend to get in society.

And don't forget about the gardener and the pool guy... I saw this show called "Desperate Housewives", and I'm convinced they're hotter in California than they are back east ;-)

Why do more women take nursing and paralegal jobs than Dr. and lawyer jobs? Why are there more women than men in teaching, and less women in the sciences and technical jobs?>>>

Uhm, because it's their CHOICE?

If you're an intelligent, driven person, why would you choose a lesser career goal?

imagine your child having a potty accident or melt down because he/she doesn't want to be in school (sometimes typical k,1st even 2nd grade behavior). that is much better handled by a woman than a man.

I wasn't aware that
