I am a WOHM but have always felt like this, even as a kid. I know it is probably wrong, but it is a strong feeling I have had.
When SAHM's say "I bought this or "I saved MY money for this", I always want to say "YOUR" money? Now, don't get me wrong, my mom was a SAHM and a great one at that but she would get spending money every week, just like I do, while working, but I can't feel technically that it was "HER" money.
Staying home is a hard job, being home today I can say that it is much harder to have a stressful out of the house job AND have kids but it is more physically demanding then my job.
I just feel that any money in the household has been made by the dh and is really "HIS" all the time. He just gives it to his wife to spend. I know this is horrible but I was wondering if anyone else felt this way?

I'm all for nutritious meals. We are the crunchy granola family in our neighborhood - we do it all. BUT and a big BUT here, just because kids are exposed to good things from the beginning, doesn't mean they will be guaranteed to be great eaters. This is the assumption I am reading in your posts.
You response has some very wide and extreme examples. Fruits and veggies OR beannie weanies/fried foods and donuts? There is quite a bit in between. Plus, not many people have 200pound babies, which is why they are on television.
Cheerios, yogurt and pb&j sandwiches aren't the entirety of a balanced diet, but they aren't junk food either. And that, along with string cheese (which is just mozarella cheese!) is what she said they ate. They need to eat more variety and include some fruits and vegetables- but a parent who serves those things isn't serving junk or dooiming a child to obesity. Those are healthy foods, they just aren't enough.
edited to add; after following this subthread back through its entirety, I undersold the "chheris, yogurt, pbj" mom. She serves far more than simply that (not that anything on that list is unhealthy). So I'm just not seeing a problem of any sort.
It's a tenet of pediatricians that you shouldn't look at what a kid eats per meal, but rather over the course of several days. It seems oh-so-unhealthy if a kid eats nothing but yogurt for dinner. But if you add that together with eating nothing but applesauce for breakfast, nothing but chicken at another meal and a banana somewher in there, it all adds up. Pediatricians (mine included) have to disabuse parents of the notion that their kids can't be healthy eaters unless literally every meal follows the specs of the food pyramid.

you never mentioned cheese, green beans, or apples...and i never called them crap. (please link to where i did) i did however call string cheese crap, as it isn't even real food. but simply serving yogurt, a sandwhich and there was one other things instead of cooking whole meals is NOT a healthy diet.
but considering my dd is allergic to dairy, serving cheese and yogurt would not be in her best interest.

my dd also eats table foods, and has been for some time. i never fed her baby food however, and that was what i was talking about. (i did forget that you said you gave them veggies, my mistake).

she's got her front teeth, but she still just can't eat them raw yet. she chokes on them *shrug*. mind you, i don't cook the veggies to death, i just soften them so she doesn't choke.

ah yes, the old "you don't know anything" routine. keep in mind that i have had plenty of experience with babies, not my own...but babies none the less. just because i have only one, doesn't mean that i don't know what i'm doing, or that i'm inexperienced.
i was using an extreme example to make a point....i have a habit of doing that ;)
serving healthy nutritous meals won't ensure that when the kids go off to college that they will continue on with it, but it will ensure that they eat healthy while they are still growing and developing.
maybe its just me and how i was raised. my mother served food, i was to eat what was on my plate...end of discussion. she served healthy meals, and tehrefore i was a healthy child. i didn't get to play the "i don't want to eat this" game. i ate what was served, and that was that.
amazingly enough i still eat pretty darn healthy. (i have my indiscretions *wink wink*)
see, i got the impression that those were the only foods being served. i was told that "you can live on string cheese alone". and that i didn't need to cook nutritous meals...i can get away with serving only cold foods, and not waste my time.
sorry, but certain foods needed for a healthy diet do need to be cooked.
and i would say that you can look over the diet for a day. but there's no getting around the fact that you do need certain amounts of certain foods every day.
and i wasn't reffering to to cheerios, pb$j, and yogurt as being junk foods, but rather the string cheese. string cheese is junk food. its proccessed cheese food.
