SAHM's and Money

I am a WOHM but have always felt like this, even as a kid. I know it is probably wrong, but it is a strong feeling I have had.
When SAHM's say "I bought this or "I saved MY money for this", I always want to say "YOUR" money? Now, don't get me wrong, my mom was a SAHM and a great one at that but she would get spending money every week, just like I do, while working, but I can't feel technically that it was "HER" money.
Staying home is a hard job, being home today I can say that it is much harder to have a stressful out of the house job AND have kids but it is more physically demanding then my job.
I just feel that any money in the household has been made by the dh and is really "HIS" all the time. He just gives it to his wife to spend. I know this is horrible but I was wondering if anyone else felt this way?

2, 3 hour naps?????? I can't even imagine that. No wonder you think sah would be so easy. I have never heard of a kid sleeping 6 hours during the day on a regular basis, other than a newborn or very young infant.

I agree. Just as it depends on the day and what activities or things that have to be accomplished by the SAHM. I don't always have free time. There are days that I am consistantly doing things. There are days that I am still working around the house long after my DH gets home. So just like the WOHP...just depends on the day and that days activities.

Again, you aren't taking into consideration varying circumstances. For example, a mom with newborn triplets shouldn't be expected to do a bulk of the housework just because she is home all day.

Taking this totally off the beaten path, but if it's OK with you, I'm going to take this sentence totally out of context and make a rule out of it. :-D

Granted, I don't know who would do it all, but what do I care? I've been slaving over a hot computer at work all day. ;-)

I think you missed the point I was making entirely. My whole argument is that sahps shouldn't have to do everything, she thinks they should. Perhaps you haven't followed our conversation enough to see that.

While I could never imagine knowing only SAHM's (I have known very few of them) the part about no one else at work having children isn't all that surprising to me. I have worked at a couple places where this was the case. Where I currently work, 2 of the principals have grown children but I'm the only employee with a minor child.

<> Don't worry you aren't the only one to do that.;-) Her whole reply was based on taking my words out of context.

So true! It goes in waves for me. Up to about age 8, I had very little free time. 9 to 10, it eased up and there was more time for me. (Age 10 was especially nice, because that's when he started sleeping all night long...so I got free time and some sleep, too.) After about 11, the activities out of school started, requiring a lot of taxi service, so I've had to devote a lot of time to that. Once they start driving themselves, I suppose that part would become less of a problem and the more free time thing might happen again.

THis, of course, would be true regardless of work status.

LOL...me, neither. Mine didn't even sleep that much at night until a couple years ago.

It is not downtiming in the sense of doing nothing but it is time to get things done that you normally would not when the kids are awake and you are running after them.
