SAH/WOH--extramarital affairs
| Tue, 02-15-2005 - 12:54pm |
I was just at the gym this morning and overheard a conversation between two women on treadmills who were discussing/debating as to whether married sahms were any more or less likely to have affairs than married wohms.
I thought it would be interesting to hear your thoughts on this.

He did not have his uterus sliced open, no. But he had a baby, just as much as I did. That is why his name is on the birth certificate, unlike my business, where it has just my name under "corporate officers."

OK I surrender.

Doing good at my job is an achievement, of course. I love those moments when I've completed a task, or saved a member, or made a process improvement. I work partly based on commission and I love to be able to say "Hey, my commission is up this month. I've worked my butt off."
But I don't think of income as an achievement. I don't think that because I have an income and a SAHM doesn't that I've achieved something and she hasn't. I don't think because my income is twice that of our receptionist that I've achieved more than her. I'm not *proud* of my income.
I can't really explain it in words, but I just don't think of income as a personal achievement.

Ummm, I could imagine PNJ saying exactly that ... I've seen it happen many a time. Always seems a bit rude to me.

<< I highly resent a SAHM from trying to take credit for the actual work her WOHD is doing >>
I don't see anyone doing that. Only you see that.
I see it as a SAHM having made it possible for him to do the actual work. Her contributions to the home and family make it possible, sometimes indirectly but often DIRECTLY, for the WOHD to be able to do the actual work. Her contribution to the family is an essential part of earning that income.
Think of a large corporation. Would it be wrong for the VP of Operations, or the Marketing Manager, or the Executive Assistant to say "We made over $200 Million this year!" ... even though their name wasn't on the account that holds that $200M profit?

Can you tell me what a SAHM does for a WOHD that a WOHM doesn't do for her WOHD?

*I* would say that I took the bar exam, and now WE are going to make some cool cash!
If my dh were a board certified doctor, I'd say, my dh practises medicine, but WE made more money when he was in oil. lol

Well now the money is coming into our household. We are quite easily saving the balance of what I brought home in expenses and taxes. It was not a good financial decision for me to be woh, given our tax bracket, and my spending habits!

In general? Nope.
