It looks like SAH/WOH isn't just for moms any more.

I have a friend from high school that is a dental hygenist. She loves it. THe job gives her so much flexibility. She started working 2 1/2 days a week after her daughter was born and she said that is more than enough for them to live on. Her husband works as well but they are NOT hurting without her full income. ANd if she needs a day off, she can schedule patients around her schedule.

I think your daughter is being smart but knowing what she wants in the future and knowing how to have a career and still balance family life. Even if she doesn't have a family now, in the future she won't be trying to figure out how to have a flexible career and kids and dh too! Good for her!

Edited to add the word NOT

My second career was definitely an upshift from my first in status, but not necessarily in income!

It depends on your starting point I guess.

Maybe she is just thinking ahead about other things that come into play with being a dentist compared to hygenist. With being the dentist, yes you could set your own hours to some extent
