SAH/WOH - Why?

I am sure this has been done before but I was wondering this in light of recent posts lately.

Why did you decide to sah/woh?

Was it a choice or something expected of you?

Was your plan to sah/woh though out or impulsive? Long-term or short-term?

"It is just how our kids are today. We are not teaching our children those values."

SOCIETY around you is teaching your children those values, and those materialistic values will be your children's unless you take very deliberate steps to counteract them.

"And I probably shouldn't go there, but why do you drive an SUV in the first place if you don't carpool and you live a long way from school, town, etc. ? Couldn't you just get something smaller?"

I wanted to ask the same thing. Obviously, protecting the environment isn't high on her list to begin with.

ITA; if a parent doesn't get how community standards relate to a kid's moral development, I really don't see how they can be concerned about discipline, let alone spanking. If that's just "how our kids are today", why even bother trying to infuence them?

That's an interesting theory there......

How often would you anticipate having to buy a new car, because of the wear and tear due to driving,

I live in a major metro area, but we have chosen our neighborhood and our school based on the idea we want a real sense of community for our kids.

We're already seeing that, and my kids are still young. My 9-yr-old dd was invited to a coed sleepover recently, and it really helped that the parents of the girls invited all agreed that they shouldn't go.

But for some parents, it's not about ability or inability to buy cars. It's about values.
