SAH/WOH - Why?

I am sure this has been done before but I was wondering this in light of recent posts lately.

Why did you decide to sah/woh?

Was it a choice or something expected of you?

Was your plan to sah/woh though out or impulsive? Long-term or short-term?

Co-ed? 9yo? I can't imagine parents allowing that to happen at 9yo. What are these parents like that are hosting the sleepover?

It could be verbiage (of course mom34 would know). Dd got invited to a sleepover. she said it was co-ed. I talked to the hosting mom ... the party was co-ed, but the boys went home at like 9pm. (evening swimming party). The girls stayed the night. That's the kind of thing I see a lot of here.

I was shocked, too, especially because the parents are nice people, but honestly, I think they just weren't thinking. The kids had been talking up the idea at school (quite innocently--they're only 9), and one of the girls had invited some boys to her sleepover party a couple of weeks before (unbeknownst to her parents, who quickly nixed the idea when they heard about it), so there may have been some confusion. When the mom heard why the girls weren't coming, she said she had wondered, too, but she thought that if other parents were allowing it, maybe it was okay. Granted, that's a lousy reason for agreeing to do it, but it does show you how parents can influence each other.

They're actually very nice people, so that's why it was all the more surprising. See my response to pnj above.

An extra 100,000-150,000 miles of driving over the 4 years the kids have their licenses? Wow.

Yes, I totally understand that you're not concerned about the environment or how anybody else in your community is affected by your decisions. They are certainly your decisions to make, but you are mistaken to think they have no effect on anyone else.

That is true. I was basing it on what I was reading, but of course sometimes important details are omitted.

The public high schools here are usually populated over 2000 students. So probably not.

I realize that. Still the same rules apply. Someone may need a new car sooner by driving their teen around.

I believe that is what I said. That is how kids are today. Society has changed the children of the world today. I believe kids are desensitized to a scary degree. We however aren't teaching our children that money or things mean anything at all.

The last truck I had when I WOH had 133,000 miles on it in 3 yrs. I buy a new one about every 3 to 4 years. Again adding mileage to the heavy mileage I already drive is significant. I also drive large SUV and that in itself is a lot more gas that the vehicles they would drive.
