SAH/WOH - Why?

I am sure this has been done before but I was wondering this in light of recent posts lately.

Why did you decide to sah/woh?

Was it a choice or something expected of you?

Was your plan to sah/woh though out or impulsive? Long-term or short-term?

Then she needs to have her tires and car checked out because she should clearly be getting better gas mileage than you according to the links I posted before.

I'm embarassed. They list 12/15 and 13.9 for mine, but it only shows the Suburban with a 350 and mine has a 454. Yeeek.

Comparing a low-emission SUV to a traditional car would be like comparing a "reduced fat" potato chips to carrot sticks. Sure, the SUV may have lower emissions than other SUVs (they deliberately made changes to reduce the emissions), but that doesn't mean they're lower than a car that had low emissions to begin with. i.e. The chips may have lower fat than traditional chips, but they're still have much more fat and are much less healthy than carrot sticks.

Why can't I compare miles per tank?

***How many miles/year do you put on your suv?***

My truck is a year old and it has 10K miles on it. That is about 2K to 5K less than the current average.

***You made a choice to live where you do, just as you make a choice not to carpool and to drive an SUV and to buy your kids each a new car because it wouldn't be "fair" to make them share one.***

You are exactly right. I chose to live outside the city. It is a better quality of life and a much safer area. My children actually have a yard to play in. The city offers none of this. I am not the one complaining about my choices You are.

***No, I don't think anybody thinks you are Mrs. Greenhouse.***

Good we agree. I don't think the average American is either. Unless they all walk and never heat or cool their homes.

***I'm saying that your decision to buy your kids new cars when they turn 16 isn't about values. There are other parents for whom that decision is about values, so what you do affects them.***

Why does buying my kids a car have to do with anyone else's kids? Does it affect the neighbor's children when you take your children on vacation and they aren't going?

We just had a co-ed sleepover for my b/g twins 6th birthday. Is it the age that bothers you or coed sleepovers in general?

I spoke with two parents before letting the kids invite their friends, and neither had a problem with it.
