SAH/WOH - Why?

I am sure this has been done before but I was wondering this in light of recent posts lately.

Why did you decide to sah/woh?

Was it a choice or something expected of you?

Was your plan to sah/woh though out or impulsive? Long-term or short-term?

Why such an extremist point of view?

Well, you could, but it would be meaningless.

Because tank sizes vary. I have a 14 gallon tank. Anne has a 40 gallon tank. She's going to get more miles to the tank. But I will get more miles per gallon becaue my car is more fuel-efficient.

However, since a gallon is always the same size, you CAN meaningfully compare miles per gallon.

***You said my van specifically.***

OH please. This is why I see that people have stopped posting here. This is really sort of childish. I have yet to see and the links show that every year the emission control on cars and SUV's improve. That is a fact no matter how much you think it isn't.

***That doesn't surprise me one bit, although many of us care much about the environment and therefore care what is going into the air we breathe.***

Like the link shows. There are more cars on the road today that are far worse than an SUV. I care about the environment...I just don't see what my SUV has to do with it.

***Of course....who cares about the other billion or so people on the planet if fits your family, of course it's fine.***

Really? You drive a minivan. Wouldn't a small sedan fit you and your boys just fine? Why do you drive something that is too big for your family? Those billion people want to know.

***Links to support this please.***

Aircraft pump out carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases high in the atmosphere, where they do more damage. The official Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change calculates that commercial aircraft are responsible for at least 3.5 per cent of global warming, equivalent to the emissions from the whole of Canada. There does not seem to be a good alternative to flying other than not flying. Reduce your air travel by utilizing new technologies such as webcams to avoid travel, and buy green tags to offset your carbon emissions.

***Oh and for its worth....checked out my minivan and it's lower in emissions and higher in gas mileage than yours, lol. 18/26 and 8.9***

Did you happen to read that:

The more fuel your vehicle burns the more greenhouse gases it emits. Our estimates assume you drive a certain number of miles each year, but you can customize these assumptions to match your own driving patterns by selecting the customize option at the top of each vehicle page.

***You said the engines are wearing out and require costly repairs.***

I said MY trucks not every single person that drives a car.

***and no it's not logic, outside of normal routine maintenance none of our cars with 100K plus on them have required any repairs to the engines. NONE.***

Sure.

The national average is 12K. So when you work, you are clocking 3x that much. And you claim your teens will be clocking 3x that much.

"Good we agree. I don't think the average American is either. Unless they all walk and never heat or cool their homes."

There are definitely people who are doing more than you are. I have to say, you really fit the stereotype of an suv driver.

She can fill her tank and I can fill mine. According to her she spends $6 less than me at the tank. I get an additional 60 miles.

It affects my teens when lots of parents buy their kids new cars. It does not create peer pressure for other kids when we take our kids camping.

No that isn't what I mean. She pays $6 less at the tank than I do and I get 60 miles more than her. So she has a tank that is about 2.5 smaller than mine and I get an extra 60 miles.

I don't know how I would feel about 6-yr-olds, especially when the birthday kids were b/g twins. I would not let my 9-yr-old go on a co-ed sleepover. Both my dd and her best friend have crushes on the two birthday boys (the third grade kind of crush), and it appears to be reciprocal. I think letting them sleep over sends the wrong message.
