SAH/WOH - Why?

I am sure this has been done before but I was wondering this in light of recent posts lately.

Why did you decide to sah/woh?

Was it a choice or something expected of you?

Was your plan to sah/woh though out or impulsive? Long-term or short-term?

Edmunds prices cars and goes on the national average of 12K to 15K.

"Nope. Still doesn't change the environmental factor. That is what you have been talking about. I personally feel the way you are saying. It just contridicts your environment point with me."

No, I've been talking about people doing what they can and thinking about the environment when making choices about things like cars. But in any case what the old couple driving the car does doesn't change the fact that buying two new cars for your teens is worse for the environment than having them use yours.

"Sure I would. Let's say I am driving 40K per year and then adding their activities to my current car would be 10K per year. That would wear out my car a lot faster than if they had their own."

No, you said just the additional driving would result in you having to buy a new car during those four years.

"I am saving myself gas and wear and tear that way. They will pay for their own gas and their owupkeep of their cars."

So now you claim you were talking about saving "yourself" gas? That's not what you said before.

Even if you could disarm the airbag, the back seat is the safest place for kids under 12.

We've been through this: materialism, environmental stuff, etc.

In many cars it is. In fact, in the 2004 Honda Accord, it is a lapbelt only. Funny, since the Accord is one of the cars you've cited.

She doesn't have a new car, but even if she did, that still allows her to take only one child in addition to hers. Regardless of airbags, the back seat is the safest place for kids.

Doesn't change the fact that she could carpool in a sedan. A sedan would easily fit her and her family. It would also accomodate her carpooling.

Well we aren't teaching our children to be materialistic. Both my brother and I got new cars when we were 16. Neither of us was materialistic. So that is just nonsense. As for the environment I still say it is better they drive a small car around than driving my big truck anyday of the week. Your kids will eventually drive their own car. So I guess they will be polluting just like the rest of us.

I said new car. I didn't say 2004.

For that matter so is her 1999 Honda. So in reality her minivan only seats 6 unless she uses that lapbelt on the bench on the third row, and that includes the driver. So the sedan will seat 5 including the driver. Interesting.

Do you think it is a safe choice to put a small child in the front seat with a disarmed airbag??
