SAH/WOH - Why?

I am sure this has been done before but I was wondering this in light of recent posts lately.

Why did you decide to sah/woh?

Was it a choice or something expected of you?

Was your plan to sah/woh though out or impulsive? Long-term or short-term?

How on earth do you know if my kids are small or not?

If I drove a sedan, I wouldn't have room for 2 kids as there are only 3 seat belts.

"Depending on the sports season, I drive car pool in the afternoons 2-3 times a week. When they make a large enough car in a hybrid, I will be looking at them, in the mean time, I try and do what ever little I can. Why are you stating such extremes? There is a lot of middle ground that does a lot of good. It's like saying I shouldn't recycle because I can't recycle every piece of trash that comes into the house....."

This is the piece she is completely missing. If we would all just try to do whatever we can do within our circumstances--walk or ride a bike once in a while, or carpool when we can, or consider buying a car that emits less pollution or gets better mileage--that would go a long way. But some people just don't even have the environment on their radar.

I didn't say every couple of years. I said when they get a lot of miles on them I trade them in. I had my last vehicle for almost 6 years. Since I had quit working I didn't need a new one. I had a really nice Toyota. I went back to the dealership and bought the one I have now. I will keep it until it has a lot of miles on it. Are you saying that someone that likes to drive a nice car is materialistic? Maybe that person lives in a modest home, and has no designer clothes, or fancy furniture? Are they still materialistic? I work inside my car. That is where the majority of my work is done. Therefore by the time my trucks are at a high mileage they are trashed. I suggest you have a look at a builder's truck sometime. You might find one that is in good shape but I would say they are not the norm. I really don't think someone that drives a nice new BMW is materialistic. They just might like cars. Some people like clothes, others homes. It isn't always materialism.

I would say that a kid that gets a car at 16 is very fortunate. A kid that gets a BMW< or a Lexxus at 16 is a privledge kid. Mine arent getting those.
