SAH/WOH - Why?

I am sure this has been done before but I was wondering this in light of recent posts lately.

Why did you decide to sah/woh?

Was it a choice or something expected of you?

Was your plan to sah/woh though out or impulsive? Long-term or short-term?

Why would I? I drive large SUV's. I don't drive sedans.

Oops, snoop is wrong....again. The laws in your home state, for example:

"NC law requires that a child MUST ride in a child restraint installed in the REAR SEAT if the child is less than age 5 and less than 40 pounds and the vehicle has an active passenger side air bag. The child restraint may be installed in the front seat if it is designed and labeled by the manufacturer for use with air bags.

Instances where it is legal, though not necessarily recommended, for a child to be in the front seat include:

If the vehicle has no front passenger air bag.
If the vehicle has a front passenger air bag that is turned off with an on/off switch.
If the vehicle has no rear seat. Note however, it is legal to place a child in the front seat if the vehicle has no rear seat, but infants and children in rear facing child safety seats should NEVER ride in the front seat of a vehicle with an active passenger side air bag. The child will be seriously injured or killed if there is a crash and the air bag deploys.
If the child is 5 years of age or older.
If the child weighs 40 pounds or more."

All other states have similarly written laws, wherein it is ILLEGAL for a child under a certain age to ride in the front seat of a passenger vehicle. All of these laws allow for certain exceptions as noted above. But in most cases, children may only legally ride in the back seat.

***We are adding this to the list of things you are claiming but in know way prove. But by all means if you think you know my family and what we carry on a daily basis along with my car pool kids, you just go right on claiming things that don't have any basis in reality.***

I was going on your whole. 5 bookbags, sports equipment, and a chair. You can't claim any better than you are then I will continue to know that a family of four does just fine in a sedan.

***Ah, so you call it a truck so therefore it's a truck. Gotcha.***

No I didn't say that either. I asked you if you would like for me to refer to it as an SUV? Really, large trucks are far worse on gas and the environment than my SUV. So I really don't see why you are playing the semantics game.

***No, I wasn't carpooling my kids in 99 and no my kids aren't 8 and 10, although the oldest will be 10 shortly, just another detail one glosses over..***

Ok 8 and 9. That is why I asked. I didn't gloss over I asked.

***We needed a new car in 99 (and we planned ahead) as we were already couldn't fit half the stuff we needed in my sedan, even with it's large trunk that you claim can hold everything that my family carries in the minivan. ***

Oh so it is ok for YOU to plan ahead but when I say I did you make a snotty snub at me. Gotcha!

***I wasn't going to keep changing cars every few years, that's a waste of money and resources, imo.***

SO you thought that I should have bought a sedan then sold it then bought a new SUV when I went back to work? What about all that energy you have been ranting about?

***I think it depends on what happened to the old car that was owned for 6 years prior. Six years isn't that long of time and barring any major problems (which shouldn't occur in a normal properly maintained car) the car would still be perfectly fine and safe to drive.***

It had been my work vehicle. It was trashed from working. IT also had a lot of miles on it.

***Six years isn't that long of time and barring any major problems (which shouldn't occur in a normal properly maintained car) the car would still be perfectly fine and safe to drive.***

What you consider fine may not be fine to everyone else. Depending on how many miles one drives will and can affect a car's performance.

No it wasn't. The Ford Windstar and the TOyota Sienna were BOTH rated the same as the Odyessey. However the Odyessey is larger than the Sienna, but not the Windstar SEL.

No I am not putting that many miles on it. That is why we bought what we did. It won't have hardly any miles on it when I return to work. No it isn't materialistic NOR have I said that I only drive my kids to and from school. I also do all sorts of work to our home. I have a trailer that attaches to our truck. I bring mulch for the yard, and all sorts of home improvement items we need for our home. So no it isn't materialistic. You are dead wrong.
